We believe that modern corporations have the opportunity and responsibility to affect some of the most-pressing challenges of the day including climate change, diversity, human rights and community development. We expect our partners, tenants and operators to exhibit a commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) issues because we believe that in supporting companies aligned with the critically important United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), we can help to advance work that can protect the planet and change people’s lives.

At MGM Growth Properties, we are dedicated to conducting business in a socially responsible and ethical way. We seek to provide and promote a culture and workplace that facilitates diversity, equal opportunities and personal development. It is our main priority to manage the company for the benefit of our shareholders while operating in a manner that upholds the highest level of ethics through comprehensive corporate governance and code of business conduct policies.

Our largest tenant and operator, MGM Resorts International (“MGM Resorts”), has demonstrated a deep investment in the area of ESG and alignment with the UNSDGs. In 2019, MGM Resorts clearly defined four key areas for their work (Protecting the Planet, Diversity and Inclusion, Caring for One Another, and Investing in Community) and outlined ambitious 2025 goals, which we will be closely monitoring as they report progress over the coming years.

MGP is aligned with MGM Resorts, the tenant and operator of its current properties, to focus on what matters to conduct business responsibly.

Protecting the Planet

Protecting our planet and satisfying the expectations of society means prioritizing sustainable operations by effectively managing energy, water, and materials.

In partnership with the broader MGM Resorts portfolio, our properties are participating in efforts to achieve the following sustainable goals by 2025:

  • Divert 60% of materials from landfills
  • Reduce carbon emissions by 45% per square foot
  • Reduce energy usage by 25% per square foot
  • Reduce water usage by 30% per square foot

Our tenant, MGM Resorts, is widely viewed as a leading company in environmental sustainability as evidenced by the following recent accomplishments:

  • Installing 1.5 million LED bulbs as part of a retrofit, completed in 2018
  • Sharing expertise as a founding partner in the Center for Sustainable Events, including presenting at the 2019 United Nations Conference on Climate Change, and enabling notable achievements, including a completely waste-free event and the creation of a 100% compostable lunch box
  • Diverting 500,000 tons of waste from landfill at its domestic properties since 2007

In early 2020 MGM Resorts also expects to break ground on a 640-acre, 100-megawatt solar array, which will supply up to 90% of daytime energy to Las Vegas Strip properties when fully operational.

Embracing Humanity

We support and our proud of the social, environmental and governance objectives of MGM Resorts, including Fostering Diversity and Inclusion, Caring for One Another, and Investing in Community. We are particularly proud of the following accomplishments of our tenant, MGM Resorts in 2018:

  • MGM Resorts awarded 9.3% of biddable domestic spending—nearly $183 million—to diverse enterprises
  • MGM Resorts awarded more than $15.5 million in corporate giving, and more than 8,700 employees volunteered nearly 124,000 hours in their communities.
  • MGM Resorts created nearly $21 billion in economic impact, with more than 20% of that being paid as direct wages.
